The word “podcast” only goes back to 2004, so it’s not surprising that many people haven’t heard it yet. What is surprising is how easy podcasts are to get into, especially with a smartphone. So take a few minutes, and you’ll have a new world of fun at your fingertips.
Podcasts are like radio shows you can get on your smartphone, tablet or computer. They are almost always free, like radio. Unlike radio, you can choose exactly what you want to hear, when and where you want to hear it. Podcasts are often enjoyed while people are commuting, working, or working out. They become part of our daily routines.
There is a great variety of content available in English. You can learn something about nearly any subject, hear music or movie reviews in any genre with samples, or enjoy some fiction. Many celebrities have their own shows, like Snoop Dogg or Gilbert Gottfried. Large media outlets, like NPR offer their shows as podcasts. There are also countless home-made productions about niche topics, like my own dear podcast. Over 100,000 podcasts are out there, and the number is growing.
I made a YouTube video walking you through the podcasting app for iOS devices. (iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini, iPod Touch). If you’ve updated your phone recently, this won’t be useful. I’m currently working on updated videos for iOS and Android devices. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
